KNOWING AND CHOOSING GOD’S WILL (PART 2)

by Admin on

From age to age and through generations of the church, a recurrent vital question for the body of Christ is ‘how can we know God’s will or how do we hear from God’? All we get to hear from God are the very issues that matter to Him, His will, for us, for the world.

Does a young child learn to hear? No. So, how do they hear? They just do! That’s what ears are for (not just what you see outside which is the pinna – outer ear, there is the middle ear, inner ear with all its structure designed to hear). But does/can a child understand what is heard? Understanding and identifying the sounds heard definitely needs a guide, but there’s no special skill to hearing.

God speaks (communicates) always, like all of the time. But only those who have ears can hear. And only those with a guide or training or understanding can interpret what is heard. Dogs, birds, and all animals communicate too with their kind. An animal of a different specie will be lost when a similar group communicates.

We are made in God’s image and likeness, we have the mind of Christ…we belong to a family line, a common genealogy, we are born of God, we are not different species. Whosoever is born of God has God’s seed, God’s genes. When we come to Christ, we receive a new nature, we become regenerated. We possess all the intrinsic abilities of that new line – including the ability to hear. My sheep hear me and know my voice, and they follow me.

God’s will is made known to us as He communicates with us. How does He communicate?

Heb 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; KJV

…and even now by His Spirit.

Now, the Spirit as He pleases speaks, reveals to us, makes known to us God’s mind and purpose, by any way He deems fit 1 Cor. 2:7-16.

Consider these examples:

Samuel’s first encounter with God was through a voice, but he didn’t know, Eli had to help 1 Samuel 3: 4-10

Samuel heard God’s voice, but didn’t know it was God. After being put through by Eli, he didn’t need Eli anymore to recognise The Voice.

Gideon had a visit revealing God was on his side and victory was assured. Judges 6:11-24

The 2 Israeli spies to Jericho (Joshua & Caleb) just knew they would overcome, they just knew Numbers 14:6-7

Joseph dreamt of his glorious future, his reign and successes, but he did not know what those meant at the time Genesis 37.

Pilate’s wife had a dream about Christ, she tried to warn Pilate Matthew 27:19.

Ananias had a vision to go pray and minister to Saul Acts 9:9-12.

Peter was in a trance that led him to go minister to Cornelius Acts 10:9-20.

He employs diverse manners, still our new nature can decipher and decode them all. We may need to unlock several levels in this diversity by way of training and acquaintance. All humans that have ears can hear sounds, but some have unlocked the understanding of more than one language. For the unilingual ones, when a different language is being used in discussion, they hear, but do not understand. If they learn that new language, they also begin to understand.

You really will never be able to recognise God’s voice if you do not by constant use, training and familiarity acquaint yourself – in prayer, the word, meditation etc. God is ever-speaking, most times we hear, we just don’t register or recognise either by negligence or by outright incompetence. We miss out most times because we are somewhere in the middle of trying not to spiritualise every matter and waiting for some lofty and highfalutin manifestation. God isn’t out to confuse you, He will not tweak His voice or filter the way it sounds, He will speak in a known language, a familiar manner, one you are used to…He wants you to hear, that’s why He is speaking.

You also must have heard, ‘how do I differentiate God’s voice from mine and from the devil’s?’ Well, the new creature is a Spirit man, in God’s nature and image, for God is a Spirit. This Spirit man still dwells inside a body, and you as a person get to retain the freewill God has given unto all. So, basically, the devil appeals to your body – the flesh, never to the Spirit man, he (Satan) isn’t from our clan or specie, so he does not have the ability to communicate with our Spirit. God speaks to our Spirit. The Spirit and the flesh are in a continuous and constant battle, always at variance, they can never agree Galatians 5:17. You (your freewill) feeds either side as you choose, and the fed side prevails.

So, I put my body under, I subdue the flesh 1 Corinthians 9:27

Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfil the desires of the flesh Galatians 5:16

Until we exit this side of eternity and undress the corruptible gown for an incorruptible garment, we have a constant battle ongoing, and the victory of either side depends on our choices.

So, when your flesh is fed fat (by the love of the world, lust of the eyes, pride of life), it prevails and gets clear radio signals from the devil. When the Spirit is exercised in praying in the Spirit, feasting on the word, meditating in the word and sharpened by other Spirit-beings (believers), the Spirit prevails, becomes resonant to the frequency of God’s voice, the signal becomes sharp and clear, blurs out the ‘eddy currents’ of Satan’s suggestions.

After we come to Christ, we must give place, priority to renewing of the mind. For it is the mind that exercises the freewill of whether to feed the flesh or to uplift the Spirit. Be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds Romans 12:2. We receive the new nature and redemption by grace, the same grace which ticks the enable button of our minds to choose the feeding of the Spirit over the flesh. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us to say NO to all unrighteousness Titus 2: 11-12

When your Spirit man has thus been lifted up and activated, the very desires you feel in your mind are in sync with God’s will, for your mind has been renewed. Jesus said, my meat is to do God’s will and accomplish what I have been sent to do John 4:34. His meat, His desire…it was no longer just God’s will, it had become His meat! Christ was and is in sync with the Father. So, you will not have to bother about differentiating God’s voice from your mind’s voice when you are in sync with Him. And when the devil is appealing to your body, you feel it not for that body is dead….peradventure you feel the appeal, your Spirit is energized to put it under and subdue it. When your computer’s Antivirus database is up to date and license still active, it clears the system of spam, junk and all sorts, and attacks ferociously any newly discovered virus. There is a measure of confidence with which you slot in a memory stick into such computer, knowing the Antivirus installed is capable.

The renewed mind of the Spirit man fears nothing, what can the devil do? Though fiery darts and arrows be shot, the whole armour of God is on standby, fully equipped with an arsenal of both defensive and attacking options.

He who has an ear, let Him hear what the Spirit is saying.

God bless.

KNOWING AND CHOOSING GOD’S WILL (PART 1)

by Admin on

‘This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, this one will be called woman, for she was taken out of man’ Gen 2:23

That was Adam’s speech, not God’s. God saw that Adam had no companion and decided to make him one, He did. But God never told Adam ‘this is your wife’ or ‘here is your companion’. God brought the new person to Adam and Adam called her woman, Eve. It was Adam who named all the creatures including Eve. If he had named them all otherwise, it would have been so.

The provision was God’s, the choice was Adam’s.

Relax, this isn’t about choosing a life partner, it’s about choices. But that example is the foremost of choices made by man in history, hence the reference.

You must have heard about God’s will for you, His plans and how He won’t force you to any of those but allow you choose, all true. An age long and recurring question however is “How do I know God’s will?”

How did Adam know this woman God brought was to be His wife? Was there a prior discourse about God making Him one? I think not! But when Adam saw the woman – whom he so named, he knew. Adam and God resonated at a common frequency on that matter, talk of aligned minds. It wasn’t revealed by a dream or vision or voice or prior discussion, Adam just knew.

We know God’s mind and all hidden things by the Spirit. The Spirit of God in us ‘resonates’, ‘beeps’ and ‘affirms’ God’s will. What does your phone do when your Wi-fi is on and in range of a connection? What does your Guitar Tune App do when your plucked strings are in tune?

When you come into God’s will, the Spirit of God in you reaches out to God’s Spirit as if in a ‘fist pump or high-five’ of recognition.

The ultimate validation of every matter rests in the word of God. Test every spirit whether they be of God 1 John 4:1, hold fast to what is true. If so be that you have the Spirit of Christ, it will resonate with everything that springs forth from God and it will dissent with everything otherwise.

Every believer must by constant use and training develop in recognising the leading of the Spirit; must highly covet to discern Spirits and be grounded in the word which is the yardstick every manifestation of the Spirit is measured against.

The Spirit’s sole purpose is to glorify Jesus, the Spirit will not do anything on His own or anything contrary to the will of God. The Spirit aligns with the word. Our experiences will never invalidate the word or the Spirit’s move.

Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2), to the end that you may lay hold on things eternal and spiritual.

God is not in the business of leading people astray.

When we make an habit of delighting in the word and meditating, and being constant in prayers towards God, even our own desires and thoughts which flow from a renewed mind will be purely God’s will. As though God has performed a ‘thought – insertion’ of His will into us! You won’t be needing a special preparation or withdrawal, retreat or alienation just to find out God’s will, you’ll just know it!

A prophet or pastor or another believer might say things to you by the Spirit, if you act only based on another’s convictions, you will be in great doubt when any situation arises to test your stand on that matter. You will be quick to apportion blame to the conveyer of the message you acted upon. Know God thyself.

God doesn’t gossip. He delights in talking to you about you. Why will He primarily want to talk to you through another believer? Unless you are audibly unavailable or selectively unreachable and constantly ignoring His calls, or your receiver is on mute mode. And when He talks to you through others, it is for the sake of validation and establishment of what He must have told you. In the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses a matter is established. Many times, the other believer or witness, may not have an idea of the real meaning of the conveyed message, but you the primary target will know. It is also true that it is wise to seek and take godly counsel from other believers. When you receive counsel on a matter, it should establish what you have heard; if you get the counsel first having not heard anything prior, return and listen and validate the counsel with God’s word. God is not an author of confusion. You have His word, you have the inner witness – His very Spirit. Know God for thyself.

Hebrews 1:1-2 rightly noted that God spoke to our fathers through prophets, to the apostles by His Son. And verily now to us I add (I am not adding to scripture) that He speaks to us by His Spirit (directly, personally). So when another believer speaks a word to you from God, your Spirit should resonate in agreement, if indeed thou hast the Spirit of God. God is constantly and ever speaking, take a seat and listen. Always remember and let this give you confidence, God leads you right not only for your own good, but also for the sake of His reputation Psalm 23:4.

So friends, start with this post; does it resonate with your inner witness? Search the scriptures, are these things true? Hold fast to whatever is true and dispose the rest, and I think I also have the Spirit of God 1 Corinthians 7:40b.

Be Berean, be blessed!

Grace multiplied to you.

to be continued…

Not Just PAWNS

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ChessSet.jpg

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ChessSet.jpg

A checkered board (the battle field), in black and white, war formations assumed, 8 by 8 boxes, 64 in all; 2 Rooks, 2 Bishops, 2 Knights, 1 King, 1 Queen and 8 Pawns apiece…its 32 pieces in all, 16 against 16. It’s a chess game.

The pieces in a chess game are ranked, each serving a different function and having a unique pattern of movement, operation if you like. Regardless of the rank or hierarchy of each piece, its relevance per time is of more value than its rank. No matter how good your top striker is, you will always replace your injured No. 1 with the 2nd goalkeeper.

That’s football though, back to chess!

At a point in a game of chess, a lower ranking piece may fetch you more progress than the overall 2nd-in-command; and the chief piece (King) is better protected by the lowest ranks – Pawns. It is not uncommon too to see the high ranking officials sometimes sacrificed at will while Pawns flourish on the board. Such is the ‘amazingness’, fluidity and dynamic nature of a game of chess. The aim is always the same – make the other king bow, how this is executed from game to game is ever changing even by the same player!

Ultimately, the potency of each piece and other pieces in unison lies in the hands of the player, who wields them. An amateur may have on board all the high ranking officials and still lose to an intermediate player with only few Pawns and the King. Another interesting fact about a game of chess is how it is almost impossible to win with just one piece. It is usually a combination of at least 2. Even if you effect a checkmate with one piece, say the Queen; your King stands in another box unthreatened. If all that’s left on your side of the board is your King, the best you get out of that game is a stalemate (a draw). And you must be really good, better than your opponent to achieve that feat.

That’s enough ‘Chess-nese’ for one post. Now to the destination – the body of Christ. While I do not depict the Christian race as a game of chess where we battle an enemy with equal potential, the allegory in this analogy will soon be evident.

For we are all members of one body 1 Corinthians 12:14 paraphrased. In one body you find the eye, nose, hands, feet, head, each subserving different unique functions. How would it be if the whole body were an eye or a limb? (read 1 Corinthians 12:14-17). Weird innit? If the ears revolt against the legs and decide to run instead of listen or the head decides it’s my turn to sink into a chair in place of the bum, how chaotic our bodies will be all the time!

And he gave by the same Spirit, unto some, Apostles, Teachers, Prophets, Evangelists, Helps, Faith, Healing, Miracles etc. (read 1 Corinthians 12:4-10). The purpose of each entity is to edify the other members of the body – the body of Christ. The design of the body rests on Synergy, not Individual brilliance.

All have the same Spirit, the Spirit gives a job description to each one. 1 Corinthians 12:11 It is the same and only Holy Spirit who gives all these gifts and powers, deciding which each one of us should have. TLB

And the Spirit can delegate any other duty it deems fit to a member even if it’s not your job description. In other words, a Teacher is not forbidden to Prophesy, neither is he whose endowment is to help barred from ministering healing or working a miracle. In fact, you will observe that each in discharging its duties employs other offices in execution.

In a game of chess, when a Pawn makes it to the other side of the board, it is promoted to function in any capacity the player deems fit or useful. Hence, a player with its King intact and only Pawns left can still employ the offices of the Queen or Bishop or Rook should any of the Pawns safely arrive the other side. In effect, the Pawns are not just pawns; there’s more to them. In the hands of the skilled player, they can be anything.

Each member of the body of Christ as well is permitted and advised to earnestly covet other gifts and operate in them. 1 Corinthians 14:1, 39.

Nothing stops your church usher or sexton from healing the sick, your church bus driver has every right and endowment to minister in words of knowledge.

Mark 16:17-18

And those who believe shall use my authority to cast out demons, and they shall speak new languages. They will be able even to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them; and they will be able to place their hands on the sick and heal them.

TLB

The signs follow believers, those who believe, not just Pastors, Apostles or Prophets.

This honour have all the saints of God. ALL.

Ps 149:6-9

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord. KJV

When men were to be chosen to serve tables in the early church, the 7 who were chosen were not ordinary, they had the Spirit of God. One was Stephen, the one who was stoned to death, who saw Jesus standing in heaven at the right hand of the Father whilst he enlisted with the martyrs. His job description was serving tables, but he served more than just tables! He was not just a Pawn!

A quick trip back to chess, some pieces start the game as bishops, some as rooks, and so on. Pawns become better, more powerful, and more important as they advance. And there’s enough room for eight queens!

So, wherever you find yourself, keep growing, keep advancing.

How?

‘You’ve had a taste of God. Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God (read 1 Peter 2:2)

As the pieces in chess are as good as the person moving them, so are we as good as the one moving us – the Holy Spirit, God Himself!

How could we possibly be mere Pawns?
