It’s Good Friday and believers everywhere commemorate Christ’s crucifixion. It marks the day Christ died for us, the religious leaders prosecuted Him with Pilate’s help, found Him guilty and was sentenced to death on the cross. The soldiers nailed Him then He died. But they didn’t kill Him, He killed Himself.
I lay down my life for my sheep, no one takes it away, I lay it down on my own accord John 10:18, 1 John 3:16
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down His life for His friends John 15:13
Gethsemane was not the first instance they tried to take Him and kill, He always prevailed John 7:30, John 8:59, Luke 4:30. Even at Gethsemane, they fell at first but He turned Himself over to them for arrest after waking them up from their ‘deadness’. His time had come and He knew it. John 18:6-8.
They didn’t kill Him, they crucified Him because He let them and He chose to die.
When He had completed His mission, He gave up His Spirit. Even the soldiers didn’t expect He would have died, when they came to check on Him. He died only when HE was ready and His work on here was done, It is finished He said.
For you and me He died, but is that all there is? Is that the end of it all? We’ll see
